US President Donald Trump has said that Attorney General Pam Bondi should release “whatever she thinks is credible” on Tuesday regarding the Jeffrey Epstein files as pressure from his MAGA supporters mount.
Speaking to reporters as he left the White House, Trump said he received a briefing on the justice department and FBI review of the Epstein files. The briefing occurred prior to the release of the DOJ and FBI memo last week.
The review found no evidence that Epstein maintained a “client list” of associates, and no additional charges are expected. As part of the investigation, the department also released several hours of footage, which officials say further supports the conclusion that Epstein died by suicide while in custody in his Manhattan jail cell in 2019.
A journalist from ABC news, Katherine Faulders had asked Trump regarding what Bondi informed him about the review "specifically, did she tell you at all that your name appeared in the files?" To which Trump responded "No, no, she's -- she's given us just a very quick briefing.”
"And in terms of the credibility of the different things that they've seen, and I would say that, you know, these files were made up by Comey, they were made up by Obama, they were made up by the Biden -- and you know, we and we went through years of that with the Russia, Russia, Russia hoax, with all of the different things that we had to go through," he added.
"We've gone through years of it, but she's handled it very well, and it's going to be up to her," Trump said, referring to Bondi. "Whatever she thinks is credible, she should release."
Trump is facing backlash from his MAGA base over how his administration has managed the release of the Epstein files. There have been calls for Bondi’s resignation to which she responded on Tuesday, "I'm going to be here for as long as the president wants me here, and I believe he's made that crystal clear."
“Let Pam Bondi do her job-she’s great!” Trump wrote on Truth Social earlier urging for unity within the MAGA movement amid reignition of controversy over the Epstein files. “We’re on one Team, MAGA, and I don’t like what’s happening,” he wrote.
"I was with [FBI] Director [Kash] Patel all morning and we are committed to keeping America safe, making America safe, working with our incredible partners at DEA, FBI, ATF, US Marshals to do everything we can to make America safe and that's what we're focused on," said Bondi addressing an event at the Drug Enforcement Administration, reports ABC.
Earlier reports also suggested that Kash Patel, the director of FBI was frustrated with Bondi for not releasing more information related to the Epstein files and reportedly told associates he wanted her removed from her position.
For years, Patel and Dan Bongino, the deputy director of FBI have suggested that more information ought to be revealed regarding the Epstein case.
The FBI and DOJ had issued a joint memo earlier stating that Epstein had died by suicide and there was no “client list.”
