NEW DELHI: The Congress on Monday questioned the success of " Operation Sindoor " and asked the government if the terrorists who had carried out the Pahalgam terror attack had been caught? This even as the BJP announced to launch a nationwide campaign to showcase the success of 'Operation Sindoor' and asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had delivered on his promise of inflicting punishment on terrorists beyond their imagination and razing to the ground their safe havens.
"26 people lost their lives, were those 4 or 5 terrorists caught? If they were not caught, then how can you say that Operation Sindoor was successful?" senior Congress leader and former Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel said and added: "Who is taking responsibility for the security lapses in Pahalgam, which the government has admitted at the last all-party meeting. Is the home minister resigning?"
'Third-party intervention: Any change in country's foreign policy?'
Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters in the national capital, Baghel also asked if there has been a change in the country's foreign policy to allow third-party intervention in matters between India and Pakistan.
Baghel said the manner in which Trump announced the military understanding between India and Pakistan to stop firing at each other in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, the country is feeling cheated and insulted and that is why the Congress is demanding a special session of Parliament.
"The government should respond on why a special session of Parliament is not being convened. The government should spell out if the terrorists behind the Pahalgam terror attack have been eliminated or nabbed," he said.
"Due to the change in the foreign policy, the government is playing with the emotions of people as it is agreeing to whatever America is dictating and not even countering it," the Congress leader claimed.
Baghel said in 1971, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi showed the world that India will not bow down before anyone. He said the armed forces are deployed on the border with the same spirit today.
"In 1971, Indiraji rejected pressure from America and defeated Pakistan. Even today, we have the same pledge, as one needs nationalism and not politics in the fight against terrorism. I want to ask the government if we have changed our policy under pressure from America," the Congress leader said.
NCP (SP) leader and former defence minister Sharad Pawar also sought the explanation from the Central government on the "mediation" by the US in the issues concerning India and Pakistan against the backdrop of a military confrontation.
"This is the first time that an American authority has spoken publicly about our domestic issue, which is not good," Pawar told reporters, apparently referring to US President Donald Trump's "ceasefire" announcement amid the Indo-Pak military confrontation.
'Operation Sindoor met 100% of its targets'
The BJP slammed the Congress for seeking special Parliament session and claimed that Operation Sindoor launched on May 7 had met 100 per cent of its targets.
"PM Modi's decision and our armed forces' indomitable courage have razed the terror sites to the ground. It was a promise of Modi," BJP leader Sambit Patra said. "The kind of military and non-military action India has taken under the operation is unprecedented, and has sent a decisive message in its war against terrorism, he added.
The BJP leader said that even Islamic countries like Saudi Arabia and the UAE backed India and Pakistan stands isolated globally and added that India has shown that no part of the neighbouring country is beyond its reach.
BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi accused the Congress of exploiting late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s legacy for political gains, in the wake of the recent understanding reached between India and Pakistan.
“How long will you keep running your political shop in the name of Indira Gandhi’s legacy?” Naqvi asked.
“The entire country respects Indira ji, but trying to politicise her legacy by saying ‘she would have done this or that’ and comparing it to what PM Modi has done is not only unfair, it will also open the door to uncomfortable questions,” he said.
BJP to launch nationwide campaign to showcase success of 'Operation Sindoor'
Meanwhile, the BJP has decided to launch a nationwide campaign to showcase the success of 'Operation Sindoor'. The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by BJP president J P Nadda.
As part of the outreach, BJP workers will organise Tiranga Yatras in various parts of the country. These events will see the participation of Union ministers, members of Parliament, elected representatives, and party functionaries at all levels.
The yatras are aimed at invoking national pride, honouring the armed forces, and reinforcing public support for the government’s decisive actions on national security.
The BJP also plans to address the “misleading narratives” surrounding the operation and provide factual details about the mission and its objectives.
