Pakistani actress Mawra Hocane removed from 'Sanam Teri Kasam' album covers on music app; Harshvardhan Rane reacts

Pakistani artists are facing exclusion beyond just social media, as their presence is being erased from Indian music albums too. Movies that included talent from across the border are quietly editing out these actors from posters, album covers, and other related materials.

On Monday, it came to light that the 'Sanam Teri Kasam' album, originally showcasing both Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane, now displays only Harshvardhan. Hocane’s image has been removed from the album covers on platforms like Spotify and YouTube Music. When contacted, the film’s producer Deepak Mukut stated he was unaware of this change, adding, “They didn’t ask me, it’s their decision. Whatever our government says, everyone has to follow.”

Harshvardhan Rane Responds to the Removal

Regarding the situation, Harshvardhan told Hindustan Times, “Now they will say that my PR team got this done! No, it’s again common sense I assume, weeding is being exercised.”

Similar Edits Seen in Other Films

A similar situation has occurred with the romantic track "Zaalima" from the 2017 movie 'Raees', starring Shah Rukh Khan and Pakistani actress Mahira Khan. On platforms like YouTube, YouTube Music, and Spotify, the album artwork now shows only Shah Rukh, with Mahira's image completely removed.

Film Industry's Response to Rising Tensions

Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, authorities have strengthened measures to exclude Pakistani artists from Indian entertainment projects. After the Pahalgam terror attacks, India responded decisively by prohibiting Pakistani content on streaming services and OTT platforms nationwide.
