Steak is often one of the priciest items on any restaurant's menu, so it's no surprise a lot of meat-lovers instead try and replicate the perfectly-cut joint at home. But getting it just right can be tricky, even for the most seasoned amateur chefs.
Now one culinary expert has set out an easy method to cook a perfect tomahawk steak - and it doesn't involve a frying pan. The video posted on Waitrose's TikTok channel sets out just a few easy steps to preparing the perfect cut of meat. Although the usual method to cook a steak is to fry it, the video instead suggests 'reverse searing' it, which involves cooking it gently in an oven for a longer period of time.
In the video - which is just 36 seconds long - chef Zoe sets out the steps to follow to cook a tomahawk steak. She says: "Cook it really low for a long period of time.
"Take it out of the oven, let it rest for about half an hour, then whack the oven up, put it in there for six minutes. Let it rest and then it's ready to serve."
Once the steak is served you can add seasoning of your choice. Zoe is seen adding salt and pepper seasoning, and serving it alongside some beef dripping chips.
Here are the steps laid out in the TikTok video:
- Pre-heat the oven to 100 degrees;
- Put the steak in for one hour;
- Take it out, and let it rest for 30 minutes;
- Heat the oven to 250 degrees;
- Put the steak back in for six minutes;
- Take it out and add seasoning;
- Serve.
A tomahawk steak - also known as a côte de boeuf - is a thick-cut ribeye, which gets its name as it resembles a tomahawk axe, with a long rib bone attached to a thick cut of meat. The video has been liked more than 4,200 times and saved by 352 people.
One commenter said: "This is how you serve a Tomahawk steak, not in a taco or a sandwich, simple seasoning is all it needs." Another wrote: "Going to give this a try!"
Another viewer replied: "Looks SO good," and another said: "Wow that is incredible."
