PDC forced to apologise as Nathan Aspinall slips up in interview after winning title

suffered a slip of the tongue during his post-win interview at the European Darts Open on Sunday. 'The Asp' was buzzing to take his second European Tour title of the season, and the £30,000 top prize that came with it, to cap off an excellent few weeks on the oche.

Aspinall saw off the likes of Chris Dobey, Wessel Nijman and Ricardo Pietreczko en route to the final, in which he defeated Damon Heta 8-6 in Leverkusen. Only three days earlier, Aspinall was competing in finals night, where he put up an admirable fight against eventual winner in the semi-finals.

When asked to sum up his recent run, Aspinall said on stage: "When things are not going your way, you have to keep fighting, you have to keep digging, you have to keep believing that you can get back to your best, and that's what I do week in, week out. And now, the last few weeks have been pretty f***ing good."

Almost immediately after uttering that last sentence, Aspinall put his hands over his face and turned away laughing, with Heta also chuckling away on the side of the stage.

In front of an embarrassed-looking Aspinall, the PDC interviewer was forced to apologise for his bad language before offering congratulations and sending him on his way.

Before his X-rated slip-up, Aspinall credited Heta for giving him a tough time in the final. "To bounce back after the defeat on Thursday night, to come here and win this tournament, shows where my game's at at the moment," he said.

"I don't make games easy but in the semi-final and final I played fantastic. Credit to Damon - I thought that final was absolutely fantastic, it was a great game of darts, nip and tuck.

"He beat me in Rosmalen in a ProTour final, so it's one-one in finals! The support I've had this weekend has been phenomenal. I've been through rubbish but I'm getting back there."

Aspinall was the only one of the four participants in Premier League finals night to make the trip to Leverkusen for the eighth European Tour event of the season. Humphries, Luke Littler and Gerwyn Price all sat it out, while fellow Prem stars Michael van Gerwen and Rob Cross also decided not to participate.
