The Met Office issued an updated weather warning for thunderstorms on Friday evening. The new yellow alert, impacting three regions, now lasts for 12 hours. The original warning for these areas was issued on Thursday, and lasted between 12pm and 8pm on July 18.
The revised warning is now in place between 11am and midnight. The volatile conditions set to batter the country this weekend could pose a danger to life in some areas, the Met Office has said as it also issued a rare amber weather warning for Saturday. Heavy rain with some thunder could create "fast flowing or deep floodwater, causing a danger to life" in the amber warning area, which spans the east and South East of England, including London. The updated yellow warnings for thundery weather covers areas within Yorkshire and Humber, North East England and the East Midlands.
According to the Met Office the warnings issued for stormy conditions could mean there is is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus
It adds there will be "probably some damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes" and "flooding of a few homes and businesses" is possible.
The national weather agency also suggested train services and power supplies could be hit.

Looking ahead into tonight and tomorrow, the Met Office said: "Showers across northeastern areas will gradually clear before another band of thundery rain moves into southern areas overnight.
"This potentially torrential rain will track northwards, mainly affecting eastern parts. Another warm and muggy night, especially in the southeast."
