'Incredible' ITV drama based on true story deserves 'every award'

Fans are praising an ITV drama retelling a true story. The Hack is a British true-crime television series that tells the story of the News International phone hacking scandal. It stars an ensemble cast led by David Tennant, Toby Jones and Robert Carlyle with Steve Pemberton, Eve Myles, Dougray Scott, Lisa McGrillis and Adrian Lester, among others. The seven-part series is written by BAFTA-winning screenwriter Jack Thorne and Annalisa Dinnella, and directed by Lewis Arnold.

The drama's synopsis reads: "Set between 2002 and 2012, the series examines two intersecting real life stories, the work of Nick Davies, a journalist who uncovered evidence of phone hacking at the News of the World, a now defunct British newspaper owned by Rupert Murdoch; and the police investigation into the unsolved 1987 murder of Daniel Morgan, a private investigator with links to the News of the World."

The Hack has an impressive 4.1 stars on Google reviews.

"You've got Robert Carlyle acting next to David Tennant, what do you expect? It was great, there were moments of humour, connection and fierce emotional intensity. Dramatisation is good, definitely enough to keep you interested, but not so much as to take away from the realism. There's highs and there's low lows as you'd expect from a True Crime series, and in the end, you get a beautiful story and depiction of just all that this scandal entailed, the toils and time it took away from these people's lives," added another.

One user on Reddit created a thread in honour of the series, titled "The Hack (ITV) - Incredible series and Dougray Scott deserves every award possible".

They said: "Just finished watching The Hack, the real-life story of the News Of The World / Murdoch Hacking scandal. The cast is absolutely stacked with talent, such as the reliably excellent David Tennant, Toby Jones, Robert Carlyle, Eve Myles, Katherine Kelly and Rose Leslie as the leads, but I was gobsmacked by Dougray Scott's incredible performance as Gordon Brown. He had the voice, mannerisms, and expressions nailed. It'll be a travesty if he doesn't win a BAFTA for it."
