Long running ITV rural soap Emmerdale lost out to Coronation Street at the Inside Soap Awards taking home three gongs to Corrie's impressive five. This comes as both soaps are set to have their episodes slashed in the new year amdist cost cutting measures by ITV. Emmerdale took the Best Family trophy for their iconic Dingle clan for a whopping fifth time, which is more than any other family in the history of the Awards. Meanwhile while teenager Amelia Flanagan was named Best Young Performer for the fourth time. They also picked up the Best Showstopper accolade for the limo crash disaster, which led to the death of three beloved characters as the luxury car submerged in an icy lake.
Coronation Street won the coveted Best Soap award for the second year in a row also beating out EastEnders and Hollyoaks. It also took home the Best Storyline for the hard hitting plot which saw Mason Radcliffe stabbed to death triggering Abi Webster's (Sally Carman) PTSD.
They also took the Best Actress award which was nabbed by Vicky Myers who plays Lisa Swain who also shared the Best Partnership award with Alison King who plays her on screen fiancé Carla Connor. Meanwhile Best Comic Performance went to Weatherfield veteran Jack P. Shepherd who is celebrating 25 years on the soap this year.
The wins come as both soaps gear up for huge changes. Beginning in January 2026, both shows will be reduced to five 30-minute episodes each week, amounting to a decrease of an hour of beloved soap opera content.
The new format, dubbed ITV's Power Hour, will schedule Emmerdale at 8pm followed by Coronation Street at 8:30pm from Monday to Friday.

Elsewhere Casualty was also victorious at the awards, with Michael Stevenson winning Best Drama Star for his portrayal of heroic paramedic Iain Dean
Strictly Come Dancing star Stefan Dennis took the night off from practising for the live show on Saturday night to collect the Best Daytime Star for his performance as villain Paul Robinson in Neighbours.
He also represented the Australian soap as it won an Outstanding Achievement trophy ahead of the show coming to an end this December after four decades.
In an unprecedented move there were two Outstanding Achievement winners with the other going to Hollyoaks star Nick Pickard, who's racked up an impressive 30 years as playing iconic character Tony Hutchinson.
