There's plenty of food to look forward to buying and eating with the change of seasons, and berries are just one of those. Strawberries and raspberries make for a sweet addition to the kitchen, used in a number of dishes from breakfast granola bowls to decadent deserts, including this raspberry and almond , and even turned into freshly made jam.
They also make for a tasty and healthy snack, but keeping berries fresh can be difficult, and there's nothing worse than reaching in for a handful only to see they've turned into a mushy mess. While is said to help berries stay fresh for longer, picking out any mouldy ones can also keep a punnet from spoiling quickly. Buying frozen berries also means you don't have to worry about them going bad and by simply chucking them out, but this isn't quite the same as enjoying them freshly picked from a .

Instead, a health coach has shared her method for storing strawberries and raspberries in one unusual location that will help keep them fresh for much longer.
While it's tempting to simply unpack your shopping and chuck it straight into the fridge, removing berries from their plastic containers can stop them from spoiling.
For an alternative storage method, Liz Piling shared a video on TikTok explaining that she stores her berries in recycled pickle jars. Although the health coach uses a recycled pickle jar for the job, you can use any jar that's airtight.
If you're fed up with your berries going soggy after buying them, taking a few seconds to remove them from the plastic and placing them into an airtight container can easily prevent this, especially as plastic promotes moisture and mould growth.
While many of us immediately wash fruit, Liz recommends waiting to do this until you want to use them, and instead placing some kitchen towel at the bottom of the jar to collect any excess moisture from the berries.
Liz intructs viewers to make sure the jar is clean and dry before adding your kitchen towel and berries to it.
She then adds another layer of kitchen towel on top of the berries to help "soak the moisture into the kitchen towel and keep your berries fresh for much longer". You can then go ahead and place the jar of berries into your fridge as normal.
Instead of washing them beforehand, which can make them go "horrible and mushy", you can simply remove them from the jar and give them a wash when you're ready to eat them.
Keeping them in an airtight container limits moisture buildup, which can be made worse by washing them before storing them in here too.
