Bhubaneswar: An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Police was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance sleuths for allegedly taking Rs 8,000 bribe from a man to in Soro area of Odisha’s Balasore district on Saturday.
The accused ASI has been identified as Hrushikesh Biswal, posted at Anantapur Outpost under the jurisdiction of Soro Police Station in Balasore district. He was caught while taking Rs 8000/- from a complainant to release his motorcycle detained in connection with an accident on September 7.
The complainant had been requesting Biswal to release his motorcycle. However, the ASI demanded Rs 10,000/- as bribe to release the motorcycle. Later, Biswal reduced the bribe amount to Rs 8,000/-. Finding no other means, the man0 reported the matter to Vigilance authorities.
Based on this, a team nabbed Biswal while taking Rs 8,000/- from the complainant. The entire tainted bribe money has been recovered and seized from possession of Biswal.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations of Biswal from Disproportionate Assets angle. A case has been registered and investigation is in progress.
