The ongoing five-match Test series between India and England has witnessed exceptional batting performances from both Shubman Gill and KL Rahul. While Gill currently leads the run charts with dominant consistency, former England cricketer Owais Shah believes it's KL Rahul who will ultimately outshine him — not just in this series but in the long run.
Owais Shah Backs KL RahulSpeaking on the Beard Before Wicket podcast, Shah said,
"I feel that he (Rahul) has always been in Kohli's shadow. When Kohli is at the crease, he’s the main man, and that often meant Rahul didn’t get his due. But now, with Kohli absent, Rahul has the perfect opportunity to claim his place."
Shah added that while Shubman Gill's form has been exceptional, he does not expect the young opener to maintain this level of dominance for long.
"Gill has surprised me. He’s played brilliantly, but I don’t think he can keep up this form consistently. On the other hand, Rahul has the technique, maturity, and temperament to go the distance. I believe Rahul will surpass Gill in the next 10 to 15 matches — maybe even within the next 12 months."

Double Centuries: 1 -
KL Rahul:
375 runs in 3 matches

Gill’s consistency has made him the top scorer in the series, but Rahul has been a pillar of stability in the middle order, handling pressure situations with flair and control.
Two Tests Remain – Big Runs ExpectedWith two more Tests left in the series, both batters will have ample opportunity to add to their tally. India, currently trailing 1-2 in the series, will be banking on the duo to deliver in the crucial Manchester and Oval Tests.
While fans continue to celebrate Gill’s dream run, Owais Shah’s statement has reignited discussions around KL Rahul’s underrated brilliance and long-term potential in the red-ball format.
