Emmerdale gives sad Robert Sugden update after actor lets slip death twist

Emmerdale has given a sad update on Robert Sugden as he made a return to the village. Ryan Hawley recently reprised his role as Robert on the ITV soap and after an early release from prison, he is back in the village.

Robert managed to sneak into Mill Cottage last night and said he was back in the village for good and hinted that "family" was what was keeping him there - but of course, we know he has an ulterior motive.

During tonight's episode, Robert said he was struggling to find a job and headed to the depot to try and see if Caleb could help out. Despite him lying, Caleb did give Robert a chance.

When Robert slept on the sofa, Victoria returned from the shop and as she chatted with him, she didn't realise he was having a nightmare about his time in prison. When she shook him to wake him up, he was confused and punched her in the face, showing his devastating trauma from his time in prison is still on his mind.

It comes after actor Ryan Hawley teased there could be chaos ahead - and warned Robert would not stop at anything to protect Aaron and get him back and also expose killer John for what he is.

"I think Robert would want to expose John to Aaron and to everyone. He loves his family, maybe he wouldn’t admit it but he loves the village and the community, he'd want to protect that, and going forward I think he does try to reveal John for who he is.," he said.

"But is this likely to cause him harm? Who knows... there’s lots of motive for John to get rid of Robert. He is a huge inconvenience and an obstacle in relation to Aaron. As much as he hates him he is still family, but what does that say about John and his morals and who he is? Would he go as far as to kill his own family? We will have to wait and see."

He added: "I would like Robert to be the one to expose him for who he is, cos everyone hates Robert at the moment. The audience know Robert is trying to do the right thing by stopping Aaron being with this person and he’s not the right person for Aaron. I would want him to. But maybe that's not to be. We'll wait and see.

"I'm not even sure he’s 100 percent sure he's his brother is he? He said he’s an imposter. It's quite complicated but there’s a lot more to explore as the story goes on."
