The One Show host Vernon Kay was forced to step in on Wednesday (September 17) as a guest said "who cares".

During tonight's instalment of the popular BBC programme, Alex Jones and Vernon chatted to Dan Walker and Helen Skelton about their new series, Yorkshire Great and Small.

Strictly Come Dancing judge Anton Du Beke was also positioned on the famous green sofa to discuss the eagerly awaited comeback of the cherished dance show this weekend.

However, as the panel discussed their Strictly experiences, Dan attempted to switch topics to his and Helen's latest programme, with Vernon swiftly intervening.

Following Anton's mention of cagoules, Dan interrupted, declaring: "Talking of cagoules," whilst raising his eyebrows, reports Wales Online.

Helen responded: "Oh, well done," though the programme's presenters weren't quite as delighted with the disruption.

"Daniel, just hold your horses my friend! We're gonna get there... Wow," Vernon declared, whilst Alex chimed in: "We're not there yet!"

Dan then announced: "Who cares about Saturday nights, it's about Thursday nights!" with Vernon persistently instructing him to "hang on".

Alex went on: "Once a presenter, always a presenter."

The chat rapidly spiralled into chaos as Anton instructed Dan to "stop reading the autocue, it's not for you."

The former BBC Breakfast presenter then quipped: "You talk for too long," before Vernon attempted to bring back calm to the studio once more.

Helen, who was positioned between Anton and Dan, then playfully enquired if she could join the hosts on their sofa, just as proceedings carried on as usual.

Yorkshire Great and Small is set to make a comeback on Channel 5 this Thursday (September 18), featuring Dan and Helen as they embark on a picturesque journey through God's Own Country.

Mixing wit with heartwarming encounters, the duo traverse iconic landscapes, meet the individuals who animate the rural landscape, and delve into the peculiarities, history and heritage of Yorkshire.

The inaugural episode will see the pair tackle the untamed beauty of the North York Moors, commencing in Great Ayton, before paying a visit to the renowned Roseberry Topping and Cleveland Way.

The One Show airs weeknights on BBC One at 7pm
