Brits are bracing for heavy rain as a large band of precipitation is set tosoak the entire UK,with no area escaping the downpour. The public are being urged to carry their umbrellas as wet and windy conditions are expected over the coming days.

A low-pressure system will move into western parts of the country on Tuesday, bringing rain to Cornwall, Devon, and Somerset.

Weather maps from WXCharts.com show that throughout Tuesday and into Wednesday, winds will pick up strength as another low-pressure system arrives on Friday, stretching a vast band of rain right across the entire length of the country, which, as the crow flies, is 588 miles.

Forecasters have issued warnings of coastal gales as the rain moves eastward, pushing out warmer weather and potentially triggering thunderstorms and hail in some regions.

The Met Office cautions of hazardous conditions along coastal areas on Tuesday as winds increase. People are advised to avoid cliff edges and stay clear of rough seas, as strong waves pose a risk of sweeping individuals off their feet.

Looking ahead, the Met Office has warned that a wet week lies ahead: “Wednesday will see widespread rain and showers gradually spreading east and northeast, possibly becoming heavy over south-facing hills in Scotland. While the east may start dry, showers will develop later, with rain arriving after dark. Winds will strengthen, especially around the Irish Sea coasts, with gales likely on exposed north-western coasts and northern hills.”

Weather maps depict a massive rain band moving eastward across the UK from Wednesday into Thursday night. The heaviest rainfall is expected along the west coast of Scotland and parts of Wales, with intense showers moving into the East Midlands and eastern Scotland overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning.

There is no relief in sight for the weekend, as forecasters warn of a developing low-pressure system off the coast of North America that could cross the Atlantic, bringing stronger winds and further rain.

Some Meteorologists have questioned if we could see storm Amy (the first name of the new 2025/26 storm naming list) battering the UK at the weekend.

"We are keeping an eye on a deepening area of low-pressure which will develop over the North Atlantic during the coming days and might bring impactful weather to the UK, most likely on Sunday and Monday,” explained Deputy Chief Meteorologist Tom Crabtree.

“At present, it’s too early to say the precise impact this might have on the weather, but it’s likely to bring widespread heavy rain and strong winds, most probably to the north of the UK.”
