In a significant step towards ecological restoration and wildlife conservation, the Maharashtra Forest Department's Pune and Solapur territorial divisions have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Grasslands Trust.
This collaboration aims to undertake comprehensive habitat restoration activities and implement wildlife conservation interventions in areas beyond the boundaries of designated sanctuaries.
The MoU was formally signed by Tushar Chavan (IFS), Deputy Conservator of Forests, and Mihir Godbole, Founder of The Grasslands Trust.
“The Maharashtra Forest Department is committed to restoring the state's grassland ecosystems, ensuring the protection of wildlife habitats, and promoting sustainable development practices,” stated Tushar Chavan (IFS), Deputy Conservator of Forests, who has taken several initiatives for wildlife conservation of the region.
Mihir Godbole emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, "Our goal is to conserve wildlife living outside PAs and create a replicable model for grassland restoration that not only conserves biodiversity but also supports sustainable livelihoods for local communities."
