Mumbai Weather Update: IMD Issues Alert For Increased Heavy Rainfall For Next 4 Days

Mumbai was lashed with heavy rainfall on Monday morning, leading to waterlogging in many areas like Andheri subway, Powai, Sakinaka and LBS Road, Kurla. Several office goers were stranded as the moderate rainfall continued throughout the day, forcing IMD to issue Nowcast Alerts. In the period of three hours (8.30 to 11.30 am), areas which received high rainfall included: Santacruz (72 mm), Juhu Airport (65 mm), Chembur (23 mm), Ram Mandir (37 mm) and others.

The city recorded more than 144 mm rainfall in 24 hours since, and more rainfall is expected this week as the IMD has issued a warning for an increase in heavy rainfall activity across Maharashtra from July 21 to 27. The warning adds, ‘Widespread rainfall activity with Heavy to Very Heavy rainfall at a few places is very likely over Konkan and adjoining ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra during the said period. Scattered rainfall activity with heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely over Marathwada region during 21 July 2025. There is a possibility of lightning and thunder accompanied by occasional gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph.”

Mumbai and its neighbouring districts of Thane, Palghar are placed under Orange Alert (heavy to very heavy rainfall), which is valid till 8.30 am on Tuesday. For the next four days, the districts are under Yellow Alert (heavy rainfall). However, Raigad and Ratnagiri are placed under Orange Alert for five days, starting from Monday. The other districts in the state that are issued Orange Alert include Pune, Satara and Sangli.

As per local weather forecast for Mumbai city and suburbs for the next 24 hours, skies will be generally cloudy with heavy rain/thundershower at isolated places, and possibility of very heavy rain accompanied with gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph at isolated places. The maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be around 28 deg. C. and 24 deg. C.

The IMD has attributed the weather change to an upper air cyclonic circulation over south Odisha and neighbourhood, and a fresh Low-Pressure area is likely to be form over north Bay of Bengal around July 24. Fishermen are advised not to venture until July 25.
