Shradh ka Mahatva: The tradition of Shradh is considered to be very ancient in Hinduism. It is not just a religious ritual but a means of expressing reverence, respect, and gratitude towards ancestors. Shradh means - work done with reverence. Generally, it is done for dead ancestors so that their souls can attain peace and salvation. According to Mahant Rameshwar Giri, ancestors are pleased with Shradh, and happiness and prosperity remain in the family. If Shradh is not performed, then Pitra Dosh arises, which can cause obstacles, unrest, and financial crisis in the family. This is the reason why the tradition of performing Shradh and Tarpan is performed every year in Pitru Paksha.

Shradh of a living person
It is clearly mentioned in the scriptures that a living person can also perform his Shradh. It is called "Jeevit Shradh" or "Atma Shradh". Its purpose is to ensure that before death, the person gives peace to the soul with his karma, and after that, there is no obstacle for the family or descendants.
When does a living person perform his Shraddha?
In case of extinction of the lineage, if a person is the last male of his lineage and there are no descendants after him, then he can perform Shraddha during his lifetime itself. In case of a feeling of death, when a person feels that his death is near, he also performs Shraddha while he is alive, so that there is no hindrance after his death. Even if there is no male in the father's or mother's clan, a living person is allowed to do this. Apart from this, some people perform their Shraddha during their lifetime due to religious faith and spiritual peace.

Importance of living Shraddha?
The main purpose of performing living Shraddha is the liberation and salvation of the soul. This deed makes a person feel peace during his lifetime and ensures that no one is burdened after his death. It is also considered as a spiritual preparation, which reminds a person of the ultimate truth of death and inspires him to follow the path of religion, truth and compassion.
