As Mumbai Indians gear up to face Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 of IPL 2025 on Sunday, star batter Suryakumar Yadav stands on the brink of achieving a unique IPL milestone that has stood untouched since 2016.
The match, set to take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium, will decide who joins Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the final.
But alongside the team battle, all eyes will be on Suryakumar, who is just 15 runs away from surpassing AB de Villiers' record for the most runs by a non-opener in a single IPL season.
Suryakumar has scored 673 runs in 15 innings so far, averaging 67.30 with a strike rate of 167.83. His tally includes five half-centuries, with a best of 73*. In comparison, AB de Villiers had scored the same number of runs in 16 innings for RCB in 2016, including a century and six fifties.

To go past the current Orange Cap holder Sai Sudharsan of Gujarat Titans, however, Suryakumar will need 87 runs. Sudharsan leads the chart with 759 runs in 15 matches.
Sunday's clash will not just decide the second finalist but could also mark a new statistical high in IPL’s batting charts.
