Elon Musk has announced that the US government's "Gold Card" visa program is currently in a quiet testing phase to ensure its systems function correctly. This update was shared by Musk on X.
“We’re doing a quiet trial to make sure the system works properly. Once it is fully tested, it will be rolled out to the public with an announcement by the President,” Musk stated on X.
The "Gold Card" visa program, introduced by President Donald Trump in February 2025, aims to provide US residency and a pathway to citizenship for foreign nationals who invest $5 million in the country. "We are going to be selling a Gold Card," Trump said. "We are going to be putting a price on that card of about $5 million. It's going to give you green card privileges plus it's going to be a route to American citizenship, and wealthy people would be coming into our country by buying this card," he added further.
This initiative is reminiscent of the existing EB-5 investor visa program but requires a significantly higher investment.
The EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program was established by the US Congress in 1990 to boost the American economy by encouraging foreign investors to create jobs and invest capital, as stated by US Citizenship and Immigration Services.
The Gold Card visa program is being developed by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Musk, which is working on integrating the necessary digital infrastructure. This includes the creation of a dedicated website, and coordination with federal agencies such as Customs and Border Protection (CBP), US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), and the State Department.
As the "Gold Card" visa program continues its quiet trial, further details and official announcements are awaited to clarify its implementation.
