Meta-owned microblogging platform Threads on Friday introduced a new feature called Account Status. The feature was previously available only on Instagram, but has now been rolled out to Threads as well. It aims to give users more transparency and information about the status of their profiles and posts.
What is the Account Status feature?
This new feature allows users to see which of their posts or replies violate Threads' community guidelines and what action has been taken against them. Users can go to Settings > Account > Account Status to check this status.
Any of these four actions can happen.
Removed content - The post has been completely removed.
What can't be recommended - Your post or profile will not be included in Threads' recommendations.
Content lowered in feed - The visibility of your post has been reduced.
Features you can't use - The use of some features has been limited.
Do you disagree with the decision? Can report
If users feel that a wrong action has been taken with their post or profile, they can submit a report. The company will review the report and inform the result through notification. Meta says that freedom of expression is important on their platform, but some limits have also been set for reasons such as authenticity, dignity, privacy and security.
If a content is important from the point of view of public interest or news, in some cases it may be allowed even if it is against the guidelines, although in cases where the language is vague or indirectly offensive, and there is a possibility of harm from its context, the company can remove the content.
