Chelsea can complete bargain transfer reunion as Barcelona grant Enzo Maresca wish

Send Push

Barcelona could be about to help Chelsea sanction the perfect transfer for Enzo Maresca. Dario Essugo, Mamadou Sarr and Liam Delap have all had summer moves confirmed with the latter scoring his first goal for the club in the early hours of Wednesday morning against ES Tunis in the Club World Cup.

Tosin Adarabioyo and Tyrique George were also on target with the Blues sealing their spot in the last-16 and setting up a clash against Benfica. In the meantime, work is seemingly being put in away from the pitch with Jamie Gittens transfer from Borussia Dortmund now appearing likely.

Multiple bids were submitted and turned down before both clubs participated in the Club World Cup but a face-to-face meeting in the United States has resulted in a significant breakthrough arriving.

Another striker coming into Stamford Bridge is also a real possibility with Hugo Ekitike, Victor Osimhen and Benjamin Sesko among the names linked.

Additions further back are also potentially on the agenda with Mike Maignan of AC Milan targeted before the first deadline. As things stand, it is unlikely to be a deal revisited later on in the summer trading period.

Signing a defender however, is very possible as contact is already said to have been made with Ajax's Jorrel Hato. Arsenal have also been linked to the teenager and currently appear ahead of their London rivals in the race for his signature.

That may result in Chelsea moving onto other targets with Maresca already hinting he perhaps wants a centre-back signing with more experience.

"In terms of experienced players that know how to win games and these kinds of things, I think they have something more compared to us," he said before Chelsea's clash against Premier League champions Liverpool. "For sure, if you want to close the gap with these kind of clubs then, for sure, you have to [sign those players]."

Following those comments, the perfect and yet unlikeliest of reunions could be on the cards. According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona are planning to sell former Chelsea star Andreas Christensen this summer.

The 29-year-old has spent a number of years playing at the highest level and can therefore add some needed know-how to Chelsea. The Blues lost his services on a free transfer back in the summer of 2022 but a return to Stamford Bridge three years later is possible.

Exactly how much Barcelona would want for his services is unclear but his market value stands at just £10.2million (€12m), as per transfermarkt.
